ROTATION AND REVOLUTION
- Rotation: The constant spinning of an astronomical object on its axis.
- Revolution: The action of an object revolving around another.
One rotation of the Earth lasts 24 hours, which is one day. So, with that knowledge rotation causes night and day. Meanwhile, revolution lasts 365 1/4 days, so one revolution is equal to a year. The 1/4 of a day giving us leap year every four years. The four seasons are caused by the Earth's axis pointing in a different direction in every quarter of a revolution. This also causes summer and winter solstices (the shortest and longest days of the year) as well as vernal and autumnal equinoxes (the beginning of spring and autumn).
Now that we have all of the key componments of the seasons let's combine them to get a accurate summary of what causes seasons.
