So, gravitational pull, what is it? Well, if we refer to the definition above, it's the action of an object pulling another towards it. However, if you want to get into the specifics, that is what is going to happen here. Tides are caused by the gravitational pull of the moon. However, what's keeping the water on Earth? That would be Earth's gravitational pull. What's keeping the water from just traveling to one point of the Earth, that's why the Sun gets involved here. The Sun, while far away, can slightly pull the water outwards which means that the water will just bulge out away from the Earth in the direct and indirect direction of the Earth.
